How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Google- the search engine provided us with research and planning materials such as information about different genres of music, different music videos, the changes in music videos as years go on and it also provided us with images of Beyonce and Christina Aguilera.

Youtube was the media technology used in order to research different music videos for different genres. After researching music videos on youtube we used Blogger to blog what we had found and used blogger to show our progress throughout producing the music video.

We used Blogger.com to diary all our work and to store all our research.

I filmed the entire music video as Kayla was performing in it and was the lead- i used a tripod and a Sony camera in order to film the video- no particular type of lighting was used, just the normal level in the room. After filming, we uploaded the footage onto Adobe premiere pro and used that to edit our footage- we also used adobe photoshop, another media technology to edit our poster and to produce our digipak.

Here are a selection of screen-grabs of our editing process using adobe premiere :)

Here is a screengrab from me editing the music video using the timeline on Adobe Premiere pro.

Here is a screen-grab of us transferring the audio onto the timeline on adobe premiere.

Futhermore, after our video was edited and the digipak and poster were finalised, Kayla and I  uploaded our ancillary text and music video onto Facebook, twitter and Youtube- all new media technologies in order to gain feedback and opinions on what people really thought of our products!

Blogger, Youtube, Facebook, Adobe premier and Adobe Photoshop were the main five media technologies I used- Blogger was used on a weekly basis in order to update on our progress, Youtube was used to plan and research our music video. Adobe premier was obviously the main technology used as our music video was entirely edited on that alone. Photoshop was used to produce both our digi pak and poster. Furthermore, Facebook and twitter were mainly used for feedback and evaluation however, Facebook provided us with more feedback than any other new media technology we used (Youtube/Twitter).

ALL media technologies used in the research, planning and editing stages were really useful and effective as GOOGLE, YOUTUBE provided us with all the information we needed and ADOBE PHTOSHOP, PREMIERE allowed us to edit and prodice our final products, finally- FACEBOOK and YOUTUBE assisted us in gaining the feedback! BLOGGER allowed us to track and journalise our progress!

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

As of yet, we are unable to upload the music video. However, here is the feedback for our ancillary texts.

Youtube views/feedback!

All in all, everybody who has seen our products have give positive feedback or constructive criticism, I  have learned that everyone will hold a different opinion- what appeals to one may not appeal to another therefore we cannot please everybody but we do try. Judging from the feedback there isn't much that has been pointed out for change other than the text for the poster- one person suggested moving the text in a different position however if we did that then we wouldn't get our desired effect of the magazine layout for our poster. However, all feedback given was positive and as we had expected, our target audience (women) were the ones that gave feedback.

Furthermore, everyone who has seen the music video in our media lesson, friends and family love the retro 50's theme, mise en sene, styling and editing and advised us on just one thing- the lighting in some places, however this was beyond out control due to the fact that it wasn't natural lighting- we were in a controlled environment of a cafe therefore couldn't really do anything about the lighting etc. other than that, amazing feedback for both the video, digipak and poster. Happy days!

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Our music video and our ancillary texts- digipak and poster all have an ongoing theme- all products link in some way. The digipak and poster have both been edited using photoshop- giving the overall look a sepia effect- we used the lasso tool from photoshop on the digipak and poster to create the 'Mama Knows Best' text- we didn't use the Mama Knows Bets text for our poster at first however we decided to in the end because of continuity and it looks effective.

Both the music video and ancillary texts have a house-style theme and appeal to our target audience of women. The poster was designed on photoshop and we decided to give it a woman's magazine themed look by placing the text where we did and also, by enlarging the picture to fit the full surface of the poster as a background it looked really effective as it looked like a magazine cover- exactly how we wanted it to come across.

The black, white and sepia 'old-skool' effect throughout the video was effective as we edited it using the 'old video footage' therefore making it look retro, this effect continued on to the ancillary texts too by editing using photoshop and different tools. Also, we have used screen shots from the actual video on the digipak to ensure  that there is not only a link with colour or style but with context too.

By having obvious comparisons between both the main product and ancillary texts we have ensured continuity, effectiveness and above all it is an amazing combination as it would work in the real world- all products link in with each other and represent the music video but also each individual product has its own unique value.

You can see how much of a brilliant combination the ancillary texts are:

Digipak:

Poster:

POSTER and CD RESEARCH:

Destinys Child:

Poster                                                                    CD cover

Eminem:

          Poster                                                                                   CD cover

Conventioanlly, the CD cover and promo poster are usually the same image, one being cropped and the other showing the other picture- we decided to challange this and used a different image however, having an on going themem of sepia, black, white and pink running throughout.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms of conventions of real media products?

Our music video follows conventions of the retro 50's style. Before we cam up with concept of our video we watched and researched into the style- in researching we came across two music videos by Beyonce and Christina Aguilera who are both influential solo artists for our generation- girls look up to them and ant to be them. Not only were these videos produced recently, Beyonces 'why don't you love me' was released in 2010 yet had a 50's theme throughout- like ours. Christina's 'Aint no other man' was slightly before Beyonces release.- 2006.

Christina Auilera- 'Aint no other man' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8x7Ta89QLo4

Beyonce- 'Why dont you love me' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QczgvUDskk0&ob=av2e

In both these videos there really isn't any one else other than the lead singer/protagonists within the video- however, Christina's does have alot of dancers and is a big production. However, we decided against dancers and just had 1 lead as it looks effective and is less time consuming to have one person acting in the video also, the use of other dancers/actors could effect the audiences perception of the video and would cost lots of money- (which we don't have!) therefore, by using just Kayla we ensured that it would not divert the attention of the audience to any other actor/dancer etc and would not cost us a penny and would take less time to shoot.

In order to get the retro theme across to our audience we  hired a 50's themed cafe and shot the whole music video there. Obviously, there was only so much we could do to get the 50's theme across i.e mise en scene- Kayla wore vintage clothing throughout the video- every outfit was carefully chosen by us both so that there would be no question that this was a 50's music video- furthermore, Kaylas make up was mirrored to the style of Beyonces in 'Why don't you love me' following the convention of red lipstick and big 50's hair. Kaylas clothes/outfits, styling and make-up were all retro therefore sticking to convention.

Also, we used the 'old media footage' effect from adobe throughout our music video to obtain the desired effect- without this our video would have had no scratching, sepia, old TV effects and would have been boring and not following the conventions of a retro themed music video. With this particular effect it ties our theme together and all in all our Music video oozes the retro 50's style.

Here are a couple of comparison screenshots so you can see the similarities yourself. :)

Here's our... MUSIC VIDEO!

Due to unforeseen circumstances i am unable to upload the music video. Blogger is stating that the video cannot be uploaded. After the holidays i will find out the cause for this and upload the video if/when i can.
